This historic manor is the work of architects Alexander Walter and Léon Gillette, who conceived this five story residence in 1926 for the rich financier, Charles E. Mitchell. Walker & Gillette designed a striking Renaissance-inspired building with a distinctive Parisian flair, reflecting Leon Gillette’s architectural training in turn-of-the-century Paris at the famed Ecole des Beaux-Arts. This impressive building, laying on Fifth Avenue and facing Central Park, survives as one of the last of the grand mansions lining Fifth Avenue.
